From time immemorial, mankind has suffered from the same old problem - mental slavery i.e. when one is limited by one's beliefs and thoughts. Mental slavery leads to various forms of slavery: physical, financial, addictions, etc.
The answer to the problem has always been the same - either realise your identity as Spirit or trust in Spirit.
Although I don't follow any religion, I am inspired by the Bible, (the religious text for Christianity and Judaism) which, I believe, has many stories that symbolise how mankind has been trying to free itself from mental slavery.
In the Book of Exodus, when Moses is inspired to free his people (the Israelites) who are enslaved by the Egyptians, Moses is introduced to the omnipotent I AM THAT I AM, the God-Power within him. When the Pharaoh of Egypt refuses to free the Israelites, Moses tunes into that Power and creates what is referred to as the The Plagues of Egypt, which includes manifesting diseases and pests; and killing the first born of all Egyptian families. It is written that while the Israelites are being pursued by the Egyptians, Moses calls on the Power which parts the Red Sea for his people to pass through. While the Israelites are roaming in the desert for 40 years, Moses calls on the I AM to supply their needs.
One thing I find interesting about the story of Moses is that the Power does not judge. How each individual utilises the Power depends on their beliefs and value system. If you believe someone is your enemy then you're bound to use the Power to destroy your enemy as Moses does with the Egyptians; or to provide as Moses does for his people. In other words, it is up to each individual to learn how to use the Power - to bless or to curse.
Even though the Israelites have been physically free, they are still in bondage to old patterns of behaviour and old beliefs which leads them to many conflicts and are even recaptured as slaves. The rest of the Old Testament in the Bible introduces different prophets who are inspired to save their people by tuning into the I AM. Each prophet's demonstration of the I AM depends on his beliefs: some share visions that guide, inspire and uplift their people; some utilise the Power to sustain and heal their people; some use the Power to fight their battles; others utilise the Power to demonstrate that the I AM is the one True God. In the meantime, the Israelites are still not mentally free.
When Jesus enters the scene in the New Testament in the Bible, his aim is to reveal how to live abundantly. He teaches that the I AM is within each of us which we can all tune into to liberate ourselves from mental slavery. He demonstrates the infinite love of the I AM by healing and providing for his followers. Jesus also predicts that those who are one with the I AM will do even greater works than he has.
Have things changed from the olden days? No, it is the same old problem - mental slavery manifested as: poverty, sickness, wars, famines and death. I believe these problems cannot be resolved by good health care and education, peace treaties or throwing money at the situation. I believe the only solution is to learn how to tune into the I AM within and let Spirit sort them out once and for all.
I trust in the Infinite Power within me.
